• Storms fair with Glo 1, other niche products
Nigeria's national operator, Globacom, is registering a landmark participation in the 9th edition of the West African International Telecommunication Technology Exhibition, (WAFRITEL), which begins today at the Expo Centre of Eko Hotel and Suites, Lagos.
It is also sponsoring the West African ICT Congress 2009, holding alongside the exhibition. Globacom is sponsoring the congress in the highest category, platinum.
WAFRITEL/WAFICT has become an important part of the African telecommunications calendar and Globacom's sponsorship of the congress is a bold affirmation of its belief that Nigerian can always provide the leadership path for the rest of the continent to follow. The theme of the congress is ‘Harnessing New Technologies for Telecom/ICT Growth in West Africa’.
The company is using the opportunity of the exhibition to promote some of its niche products and services. These include the 3G plus services, Blackberry from Glo, Video calling services, Voice SMS, C aller tunes and a variety of value added services that have stood the network out in the telecoms market.
Globacom will also give visitors to its pavilion a foretaste of its Glo1 submarine cable system running from Europe to Africa with a dedicated link to the U.S. The completion of the undersea cable system will radically alter the provision of telecommunications services, not only in Nigeria, but also across the West African sub-region.
Globacom, which recently extended its foothold to Benin Republic and Ghana, has its vision on building the biggest and best telecommunication network in Africa.
WAFRITEL, the biggest gathering of stakeholders in the telecommunications sector in West Africa has become the region's premier telecommunications event, attracting the industry's major stakeholders, subscribers, industry leading decision makers, equipment suppliers, etc.
