Members of the National Assembly from Bayelsa State yesterday described as condemnable and a show of the rot within the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) the face-off between Governor Timipre Sylva and his deputy, Peremobowei Ebebi, over the outcome of the local government primaries, saying"only God can save Bayelsa from evil geniuses".
The sudden departure of the deputy governor to Abuja for consultation with Vice President Goodlcuk Jonathan and other national leaders of the party has brought about appreciable calm as aggrieved supporters of the governor and his deputy have put on hold protest marches in support of the duo to consult and take stock on the next line of action.
Speaking with Leadership yesterday in Abuja , the member of the House of Representatives representing Sagbama/Ekeremor federal constituency, Hon. Seriake Dickson, said the only thing the people of Bayelsa State need at this period is prayer. "Only God can save the state from the evil actions being perpetuated."
Hon. Dickson, said the solution to the problem lay with God, stressing that the refusal of the party to intervene and settle the rivalry is not helping matters."
The crisis between the governor and his deputy is condemnable. It is a shameful act and they should not put the state in crisis and make the people suffer.
"The party has failed because it has been divided in the last two years since the governor assumed office and nobody is doing anything about it. It shows the level of rot in the party. We pray that God should save Bayelsa State ".
Also, a lecturer with the state university, the Niger Delta University (NDU),Ammassoma in Southern Ijaw area of the state, Mr. Pius Waretimi, said the PDP has failed the people with their open display of greed and a deviation from the rule of law and good governance.
" If the governance of the state is people-oriented, then there would not have been bitterness and rancor.
Waretimi said, "this is an unfortunate development, especially with the general and local council elections approaching. Why should local council primaries bring rancor between the governor and his deputy? It is unfortunate that the PDP can not resolve the matter in a family way. They have failed the people. The people will hold the ruling party responsible at the next poll."
Leadership checks around the Bayelsa State capital showed relative calm as aggrieved members had gone into hiding following the departure of their bosses from town.
Leadership further gathered that the deputy governor left the state for Abuja to explain the situation and his role in the face-off with his boss to the vice president and other party leaders.
The governor, according to his aides, left town for a social function in Port Harcourt , Rivers State , and, as at the time of filing this report, his next destination was not clear to his supporters.
