Following the disclosure that President Umaru Musa Yar'Adua is suffering from acute pericarditis, an Abuja based group, the Patriotic League (PL) has called on all Nigerians to pray for his quick recovery saying what the president needs now is prayers and cooperation.

Meanwhile, the group has concluded arrangements to organize an inter-denominational prayer session in Abuja for the healing of the president.

National president of PL, Chief Mike Arinze who made the call in  Abuja yesterday through a press statement said with the official disclosure of the state of health of President Yar'Adua by his personal physician, it was incumbent on all citizens to desist from spreading rumours but pray fervently for his recovery.

He said as human beings, no one decides when he or she should fall sick but when it happens, it is the grace of God and efforts of medical doctors that heal and it will be wrong of any one to carry rumours about death.

"Now that we have been officially informed that the President is suffering from a condition of the heart, there should be no room for rumours again. We only have to commit him to the hands of God the Almighty. I believe He can return our president to normalcy.

"I know that Nigerians are concerned but anybody could fall sick at anytime. We do not bargain for it; it comes when it wants. Therefore, let us pray for him and our nation especially at this holy period of Eid-el kabir."

Arinze advised Nigerians not to be unduly panicky adding that since the president is said to be responding 'remarkably well' to treatment, people should stop making 'careless' statements about his health.

"With the news coming from his (Yar'Adua's) chief physician, we believe that it does not call for any rumour again. We believe he will be okay very soon", he said.

On the planned prayer session, the national president disclosed that arrangements were in high gear to put together an inter-faith mini–crusade where prayers will be offered for the president's good health.
