President Umaru Musa Yar'Adua has approved the constitution of a 10-man committee to look into the problems of the aviation sector with a view to tackling them and ensuring  smooth operation of domestic airlines.

The decision to be reached by the committee, will apparently be geared towards providing bail-outs for troubled domestic airlines.

Government's action was sequel to the complaints of airline operators who have appealed for a conducive environment that would enable them achieve maximum results in business.

The 10-man committee,  headed by Edward Boyo, is to among other things, look into the multifaceted complaints of the Airline Operators of Nigeria (AON) and suggest ways of tackling the problems.

The stakeholders’ meeting which had about 44 members of the AON in attendance and presided over by Tanimu Yakubu, Chief Economic Adviser to President Umaru Yar'Adua, was held behind closed doors, at the Presidential Villa, Abuja .

Minister of Finance, Alhaji Mansur Muktar, who was also at the meeting, noted that government had been monitoring the sector and felt that there was the need to be abreast with developments in the sector in order to know what kind of intervention strategy that would be adopted to solve the problems facing the sector.
