Despite the widely publicised disenfranchising of voters in Saturday's election in Anambra State, the governorship candidate of the Labour Party, LP, Dr. Andy Uba, has declared that he will not go to court to challenge the alleged irregularities that characterised the poll.
Also, the Coalition of Credible Candidates, CCC, led by the governorship candidate of the ADC, Chief Okey Nwosu, while briefing newsmen yesterday, accepted the result declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC. He said that the group will not go to court to contest the irregularities in the election.
Uba, while addressing supporters in Awka, said he had resolved not to go to court because he neither wanted to destabilise, nor be one of those who may want to destabilise Anambra state.
"I am not ready to go to court because I am not ready to destabilise Anambra State. Only God knows what happened in that election. But all I can tell you is that it is not yet over in politics. You should not despair. You should not lose hope because, definitely, we shall reach where we want to go by the grace of God.
"Let us not be part of those who may want to destroy the state The battle is not our battle but of the Lord. Within the next few weeks we will know where we are going," he said.
The Labour Party candidate appealed to his supporters to be steadfast by keeping the Igwebuike structure intact for them to achieve their goal in 2011 and beyond.
On its part the CCC, in a statement read to journalists by the ADC candidate, Chief Okey Nwosu, said they had accepted the result of the poll and to congratulate Governor Peter Obi who was declared winner because they were committed to moving the state forward.
"The coalition extends a hand of fellowship to our governor elect, and the incumbent governor, Mr Peter Obi. We shall cooperate with him to lift our people out of poverty the total transformation of our only state, Anambra."
Nwosu noted that the people of the state had resolved not to allow external influences to hold their state to ransom any more.
