Ado Bayero Destroys Porn Films, TV Games

The Emir of Kano, Alhaji (Dr.) Ado Bayero yesterday destroyed pornographic films, posters and TV games worth millions of naira.

The emir performed the destruction of the films during a ceremony held at the Magistrate Court situated within the Malam Aminu Kano International Airport (MAKIA). The exercise was carried out in accordance with the power conferred on the chief magistrate of the mobile court, Chief Magistrate Mukhtari Ahmed by section 97d, sub-section 2 of Kano State censorship law 2001 in metagraphy and licenses, censorship regulation 2001.

Addressing the gathering, the Emir of Kano, Alhaji (Dr.) Ado Bayero commended the effort of the state government to fight against indecency, saying that the destruction of the pornographic films and its related items would assist greatly toward the eradication of deviance among the people , particularly the youth who he described as the leaders of tomorrow.

He assured that Kano Emirate will continue to support and cooperate with the state government to fight every corrupt practices with a view to sanitising the society, and urged the youth in the state to desist from participating in activities that would tarnish the image of their religion and culture.

Speaking earlier, the Director General of the state Censorship Board, Alhaji Abubakar Rabo explained that the essence of the destruction of the films, posters and the games is in order to fight leud acts, and also to complement international and national laws restraining people from accessing anything pornographic be it electronic or print.

He added that the occasion is the fifth time the state government is conducting such exercise. He appealed to the people of the state to desist from accessing anything pornographic, because according to him, the state censorship only intends to establish a clean Kano environment.

Rabo added that the Censorship Board has embarked on mass enlightenment and education of the general public on the issue, saying already a law has been introduced throughout the state on restricting under 18’s from entering viewing centres, while liaison officers have also been assigned for biographs with a view to sanitising film patronage in the state.

He thanked the Emir for complementing government’s effort toward banning pornography, TV games and other obscene materials in society.
